Wontumi Opens Up About Prison Fears During Visit from Broadcaster KT at Nsawam
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Wontumi, has reportedly confided in broadcaster Kwame Tanko, popularly known as KT, about his deep fear of imprisonment during a visit at Nsawam Medium Security Prison. According to accounts of the meeting, Wontumi told KT that going to prison had always been his greatest fear in life, yet he now finds himself behind bars.
“My greatest fear in this world is going to prison, but now I’m here,” Wontumi was quoted as saying during the visit. The remark captures the politician’s reflection on his current circumstances, given that imprisonment was something he had long dreaded.
According to Tanko, Wontumi also encouraged him and others close to him to accept the situation and move forward rather than remain angry or dwell on regrets about what had happened. “What will happen has happened,” Wontumi reportedly said, suggesting a sense of resignation and a call for those around him to focus on the future rather than linger on the past.
Wontumi is currently serving a prison sentence following his conviction in the Samreboi illegal mining case. In addition to that conviction, he is also facing a separate legal battle connected to the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve case. The two matters mean the former regional chairman remains entangled in significant legal proceedings even as he serves his sentence.
The visit by KT and the details shared afterward offer a rare glimpse into Wontumi’s state of mind and his interactions with close associates while in custody. His reported comments suggest a man coming to terms with the consequences of his legal troubles, urging those around him to accept reality and move on rather than harbor anger or regret over developments that can no longer be changed.
