Ibrahim Mohammed pledges to strengthen NDC grassroots structures in Central Region

Cape Coast, Oct. 26, GNA – Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Baba, an aspiring Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to strengthen the Party’s grassroots structures, promote unity and introduce sustainable income-generating initiatives to enhance its operations.

He said his vision was to transform the Central Region from a politically competitive region into a stronghold of the NDC through effective leadership, grassroots empowerment, accountability and inclusive decision-making.

Mr Mohammed, outlining his vision and strategies, said his ambition went beyond occupying the regional chairmanship position to building a formidable party capable of sustaining electoral victories.

“My ambition is not merely to occupy an office; it is one that will win power in the Central Region and Ghana as a whole, build a stronger party structure, empower the Constituencies and the Branches, promote inclusiveness and lay a solid foundation for sustained electoral victories,” he stated.

Mr Mohammed said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Cape Coast during his visit to various constituencies to monitor the just ended constituency elections.

He said his leadership would be anchored in the Party’s principles of probity, accountability and social justice, with particular attention to the welfare and contributions of grassroots members.

Outlining his priorities, Mr Mohammed promised to champion the construction of functional party offices across constituencies in the region to improve administration, membership mobilisation, training and community engagement.

He said the initiative would involve collaboration with constituency executives, party members, benefactors and other stakeholders to mobilise the necessary resources.

“Every constituency deserves a functional party office,” he stressed.

On financial sustainability, the aspirant said he would encourage constituencies to establish viable income-generating activities to reduce their overdependence on donations.

These, he explained, could include small-scale commercial ventures, cooperative initiatives, fundraising programmes and other lawful business activities suited to local economic opportunities.

He said the Regional Secretariat, under his leadership, would facilitate partnerships, business planning and knowledge-sharing to support the initiatives.

Mr Mohammed also pledged to introduce a quarterly reporting system to strengthen transparency, accountability and performance monitoring at the constituency level.

The reports would cover membership mobilisation, branch activities, financial performance, youth and women’s participation, challenges and proposed solutions.

He further promised to provide each constituency with a laptop and internet service to improve record-keeping, communication and administrative efficiency.

“Accountability will not be a slogan; it will be a standard of our administration,” he said.

Touching on youth and women’s development, Mr Mohammed said he would prioritise leadership training, mentorship, entrepreneurship, skills development and digital communication programmes to prepare young people and women for leadership responsibilities.

He said opportunities would also be explored through sports development and scholarships, both locally and internationally, to build the capacities of young people.

“We must move beyond praising our youth and women at rallies to investing in their skills, opportunities, representation, and leadership,” he stated.

On internal party cohesion, the aspirant proposed the establishment of a Regional Conflict Resolution Committee to address disagreements, promote reconciliation and prevent internal disputes from undermining the Party’s electoral fortunes.

He said the committee would operate within the NDC Constitution and established procedures, ensuring fairness, impartiality and respect for due process.

Mr Mohammed emphasised that unity remained critical to the Party’s growth and electoral success, adding that differences among members should be resolved through dialogue rather than confrontation.

He also promised to strengthen the Party’s relationship with traditional authorities through periodic engagements with the Central Regional House of Chiefs and other traditional institutions.

According to him, such engagements would provide opportunities to discuss development challenges, including education, employment, sanitation, infrastructure and agriculture, while respecting the non-partisan role of traditional leaders.

The aspirant further proposed greater involvement of experienced party cadres, former executives and relevant appointees in party administration to promote mentorship, consultation and effective coordination.

He said their experiences, expertise and institutional knowledge would be valuable in building a stronger and more responsive regional party structure.

Mr Mohammed maintained that his proposed leadership approach would promote consultation, teamwork, fairness, transparency and collective responsibility.

He acknowledged that achieving the vision would require the commitment and active participation of constituency executives, branch leaders, party elders, cadres, youth and women.

He, therefore, appealed to delegates and members of the NDC in the Central Region to support his candidature to build a united, financially resilient and well-organised party.

“Let us build a party in which every constituency matters, every branch is strengthened, every member is respected, and every contribution is valued,” he said.

He expressed confidence that a united and empowered grassroots structure would position the NDC for greater organisational effectiveness and future electoral success in the Central Region.
