WHO Says Nigeria Has No Ebola Case After Patient Is Evacuated to Switzerland

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, October 26, 2026, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says Nigeria currently has no Ebola case, after the patient and her husband were evacuated to Switzerland.

The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, said this in a statement on his official X handle on Monday. He said the evacuation took place earlier that morning, and that both the woman and her husband are Swiss citizens.

According to Janabi, the patient is clinically stable. He said Nigerian medical teams managed her through the acute phase of the illness and stabilised her condition.

He thanked the Federal Government, health workers, clinicians, emergency responders and other partners involved in the response. He described the outcome as a remarkable achievement. He said it showed Africa’s expertise, resilience and leadership in public health when countries work together.

Janabi stressed that vigilance remains very important, even after the evacuation. He said Nigeria will continue to follow up 52 contacts. Switzerland will take over the care of the patient, and will also monitor her husband, who is contact number 53.

Earlier this week, the NCDC said it was monitoring 53 contacts of the confirmed case in Abuja, and that each would receive N100,000 weekly during the 21-day monitoring period.
