2027: Obi, Kwankwaso, Dickson Storm Abuja As NDC Intensifies Moves Ahead Of Presidential Election

According to a report by PUNCH on Monday 26 October 2026; Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Senator Seriake Dickson on Monday arrived in Abuja for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as the party advances its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held in the Maitama district of the Federal Capital Territory, brought together party leaders, political figures, candidates and supporters from across the country.

Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, arrived with Kwankwaso, his running mate, while Dickson, the NDC National Leader, was also present for the high-profile gathering.

Their arrival came as the opposition party prepared to inaugurate its National Campaign Council and unveil other activities aimed at strengthening its organisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters welcomed Dickson and the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, with enthusiasm; Obi and Kwankwaso also received a lively reception, as an in-house remix of Olamide’s popular song, Wo, played during their arrival.

The former Anambra State governor appeared in his trademark all-black outfit, complete with a matching cap, while Kwankwaso wore a white babanriga and his traditional red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap.

Beyond the NEC meeting, the NDC has scheduled several activities for Monday, including the commissioning of its newly acquired national secretariat in Abuja, the inauguration of its National Campaign Council and the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections.

The certificates are to be presented to candidates contesting the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections. The party is also expected to host a dinner after the inauguration of the campaign council.

The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the programme in a statement issued on Sunday; He said the activities would also feature the party’s third NEC meeting.

As part of its commitment to transparency, the party plans to present its financial statement through the National Treasurer during the gathering.

Director said the party had faced financial challenges amid the economic difficulties in the country; He also claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford Expression of Interest forms because of poverty, hunger and deprivation.

According to him, the party decided to issue the forms free of charge to the affected aspirants to enable them to participate in the electoral process.

The Monday gathering represents part of the NDC’s broader efforts to organise its leadership, strengthen its campaign machinery and mobilise candidates and supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
