We Are Still Better Off Than France And Italy, Just Take A Google, Check It, — Oyalowo
According to a video posted on Trust TV on Sunday October 25, 2026, Ayo Oyalowo said a global problem linked to Donald Trump is affecting Nigeria, but that the country is still better off than France and Italy. He spoke on the Sunday Politics programme. He is spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The host asked him about the hardship felt by ordinary Nigerians despite positive reports on the economy. Oyalowo said he had spoken to friends about the situation in France and Italy. The host said the cause there is the cost-of-living crisis.
In his words, Ayo Oyalowo said, “Clearly the global problem that was created by Trump is affecting us to a large extent, so we cannot be fully immune to the vagaries of international and global economic crisis.
“But to look at it, if Nigeria was as bad, we would be where France, Italy and other places are. Nigeria is still far better than many of these countries. Just take a Google, check it, and you can always see that,” he said.
The host then asked whether the lack of protests on the streets pointed to a calmer situation. Oyalowo said he was suggesting that things are getting better. He said life in Nigeria is not in crisis.
He added that Nigerians did not just start suffering three years ago. He said he had been sent a newspaper from 1970 and that the songs of Nigerian musicians also describe hard times. He said this does not mean the government should stop working to improve things.
He said Nigeria has never been a utopia. He said the government is removing the bottlenecks that cause the economy to rise and fall. These are the speaker’s views and were not backed by data on the programme.
