Nollywood Yoruba actor Taofeek Adewale, popularly known as Digboluja, has recounted his experience with a colleague and veteran Peju Ogunmola when they were on set for a movie production back in 2023.
The incident involved a particular movie scene in which the actress became furious after Adewale shot a prop gun at her.
In a viral video circulating on social media on Monday, Ogunmola expressed her dissatisfaction over the actor’s act.
After the prop gun was shot, she turned around and shook the actor.
With the actor looking surprised, Ogunmola lamented, “I don’t like it, you know I don’t like it when a gun is pointed at me. You didn’t tell me. I was told he (Adewale) would use an object to hit me. What rubbish!”
Thereafter, Adewale said, ” At first, I didn’t want to pull the trigger. I thought you had told her.”
In a follow-up interview seen on social media, the actor said that, according to the movie script which he read, he was to play the role of a warrior.
His visit to the woman’s house, who played the role of Iyalode in the movie, was to discuss and persuade her (Iyalode) about an issue.
“I read the movie script; I acted as a warrior. When I went to meet the woman at home to talk to her, and she didn’t oblige, I shot at her,” he said, according to the script.
“I knew Aunty Peju doesn’t like guns, so I told the movie director. He replied that he had informed her,”
Adewale stated further that the director said Ogunmola doesn’t like the use of guns, to her surprise, but she doesn’t have any problems once she is “prepared” for it.
He said that on the movie set, he and the actress began their conversation according to the script. After a few interactions on the scene, he then shot her.
The presenter asked him what she ought to do at the sound of the gunshot.
“She was supposed to fall on the ground,” he said.
Quizzed further by the presenter about why she didn’t fall, the actor justified such a decision by Ogunmola, saying, “It met her by surprise. He didn’t inform her that a gun would be shot. She believed I would hit her with an object.”
The actor narrated that after the incident, Ogunmola got annoyed with him.
“Some people asked me what I would have done if she slapped me or rough-handled me,” he said, adding that “if she slapped me 12 times, I won’t say a word. Once she has slapped me thrice, I will run away because she is a mother to me. I was also pained about the incident.”
Reacting to the actor’s narration, some users praised him for his calmness, while a few others accused some crew members of the incident.
One X user, Eminent Kayode, wrote, “My respect for this man increased by ten folds.”
Another user, OyinAtiBode, stated, “The director is an evil person who can’t be trusted. He probably deliberately wants them to do it; maybe that will destroy her power. He used Adewale. I love how mama remained respectful to Adewale even when angry, and she’s way older.”
Another X user, Oluwaseun, said, “Everyone can tell she’s a genuinely good woman…she has the look, she has the temperament, she has the humility, she’s just a superb woman all around.”
