Relebohile Mofokeng Explains the Mentality Behind His Goal for Union SG

South African football star Relebohile Mofokeng has highlighted the importance of desire and mentality after scoring for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise during their impressive comeback victory over Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Pro League.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker played an important role in Union SG’s 5-2 victory, contributing a goal and an assist as his team recovered from a difficult position to claim all three points.

Union SG initially found themselves trailing by two goals, putting pressure on the players to respond. However, they showed determination and attacking quality to turn the match around and secure a convincing victory in front of their supporters.

Mofokeng was among the players who made a significant contribution to the comeback. The South African international scored in the 80th minute, using his attacking instincts to find the back of the net and extend his team’s advantage.

Speaking after the match, Mofokeng explained that determination and the right mentality are essential for a player who wants to score goals.

“If the desire is there and the mentality is there, I think you’ll always get the goal,” Mofokeng said in a post-match interview.

His statement reflects the importance of remaining focused and continuing to work hard, even when opportunities do not come easily. For attacking players, confidence and persistence can make a significant difference, particularly in matches where the team must fight back from a difficult situation.

Mofokeng’s goal was also a positive moment in his developing career in European football. Moving abroad presents new challenges for any player, including adapting to a different playing style, competing against unfamiliar opponents and proving that they can perform consistently at a higher level.

The former Pirates star has continued to attract attention from South African football supporters as he works to establish himself at Union SG. Performances involving goals and assists provide valuable opportunities for him to demonstrate his ability and contribute to the team’s objectives.

His latest display also showed that he can influence a match beyond scoring alone. By providing an assist as well, Mofokeng helped Union SG complete their comeback and secure an important result.

The victory will give the Belgian side confidence as they continue their domestic campaign. However, maintaining that momentum will require the team to reproduce the same determination and collective effort in their upcoming fixtures.

For Mofokeng, the message is clear: talent matters, but desire, mentality and hard work are equally important. His contribution against Cercle Brugge provided another example of how persistence can help a player make a difference when the opportunity arrives.
