Plateau Attack: Death Toll Rises to Seven as Three More Vigilantes Die

By Tgnews Reporter The death toll from a gun attack on Dorowa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State has risen to seven after three vigilantes who sustained serious injuries during the incident died.

The attack, which occurred at about 11 p.m. on Friday, reportedly targeted local vigilantes who were keeping watch over the community. Four vigilantes were killed instantly, while six others sustained serious injuries and were rushed for medical attention. However, a subsequent report indicated that three of the injured vigilantes later succumbed to their wounds, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven. The attack reportedly triggered panic among residents, forcing many to flee in different directions as the gunmen overwhelmed the vigilantes with superior firepower. The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and condemned the killing of community members who had volunteered to protect their neighbourhood. Tengwong described the attack as unfortunate and expressed sympathy with the victims and their families. He called on security agencies to launch an urgent investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted. “We are deeply saddened by this latest attack and call on the relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he said. He expressed concern that residents continued to live in fear despite efforts by community members to support local security arrangements. A resident, identified only as Mamuda, also appealed to the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area. He said three bodies were later recovered from a bush within the community, urging authorities to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The latest attack adds to security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities have repeatedly faced violence. Residents are now calling for stronger security measures to protect lives and property and prevent further attacks. 📰 Get Latest News Updates Join our Telegram group and receive breaking and trending news updates directly on your phone.
