Pete Edochie Was a Broadcaster in Enugu While Nkem Owoh Was a Writer For ‘New Masquerade- Akposheri
Nollywood legend Ambassador Tony Akposheri has reflected on the early professional experiences of veteran actors Pete Edochie and Nkem Owoh, recalling their involvement in broadcasting and television writing before becoming widely recognised for their acting careers.
Akposheri made the remarks during an interview with Gbam Interview on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while discussing the history of Nigerian television and the contributions of established broadcasting stations to the development of the country’s entertainment industry.
According to the veteran actor, Edochie worked as a broadcaster in Enugu, while Owoh was a writer for the popular television programme *New Masquerade*. His comments highlight how some of Nigeria’s best-known entertainers gained experience in different aspects of television production before establishing themselves as prominent actors.
Akposheri’s recollection also points to the important role played by television stations such as the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in nurturing talent during the early years of Nigerian television entertainment.
At a time when television programmes attracted large audiences across the country, these stations provided opportunities for professionals to develop their skills in broadcasting, scriptwriting, acting and production. The experience gained through such platforms helped many individuals build careers in the entertainment industry, with some later becoming household names.
Edochie subsequently became one of Nigeria’s most recognisable actors, known for his commanding screen presence and roles in numerous films. Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, also established himself as a celebrated actor and comedian, earning recognition for his distinctive performances in Nollywood productions.
Akposheri himself became a familiar face to Nigerian television audiences through his portrayal of Zaki in New Masquerade, one of the country’s best-known television comedy series. His experience on the programme gives him a connection to an important period in the development of Nigerian television entertainment.
His comments serve as a reminder that several prominent figures in Nollywood had professional experiences beyond acting, with broadcasting, writing and television production forming part of their early careers.
