Olori Ashley emotional as son begins school, shares first day video
Olori Ashley Folasade, one of the wives of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has shared an emotional moment from her son Prince Ademakinwa’s first day at school.
The Queen of Ife shared a video on her official social media page on Monday, showing moments surrounding the young prince’s first day, describing the milestone as the beginning of a new journey for him.
Ashley said her heart was filled with gratitude, love and pride as she watched her son begin school.
She disclosed that before he left home, his father and grandfather prayed for him, while she offered her own prayers as his mother.
In a post titled “A Beautiful Beginning, Rooted in Heritage”, Ashley said she was filled with gratitude, love and pride as her two year old son took his first steps into education.
“This milestone is more than starting school, it is the beginning of a beautiful journey rooted in the heritage of his forefathers, our Yoruba culture, and the blessings of generations before him,” she wrote.
The queen disclosed that the Ooni prayed for their son before he left for school, while his grandfather, Baba Oba John Oluropo Ogunwusi, also offered him blessings.
She added that she covered the young prince with prayers as his mother.
Ashley said she had nurtured Ademakinwa with love, discipline, kindness, respect and pride in his Yoruba roots and royal heritage from birth.
“My darling Sonshine, thank you for being such a brave, strong, remarkable little boy. You amaze me every day!” she wrote.
She also revealed that their first school day was an emotional experience for both mother and son.
“And yes, our first school day came with tears! You cried, and Mother cried too! But seeing you settle beautifully and now enjoy school makes my heart so happy,” she said.
The queen expressed gratitude for the confident, courageous and intelligent boy her son was becoming, adding that she and the Ooni were proud of him.
She prayed for divine protection and guidance for the prince, asking that he grow in wisdom, knowledge, confidence and good character.
“May Olódùmarè guide your footsteps, protect your destiny, and surround you with divine favour. May no evil come near you, may your feet never lead you into danger, and may your destiny never be diverted,” she wrote.
The milestone comes about two years after the birth of Prince Ademakinwa, the first child of Queen Ashley and the Ooni. The prince was born in September 2024 after the couple announced that they had welcomed a baby boy.
In September 2026, the Ooni celebrated his son as he turned two, describing him as a blessing and praying for him to grow in wisdom, good health, character and grace.
Prince Ademakinwa has also made appearances with his parents at royal and cultural events, including the 2026 Olojo Festival in Ile Ife.
Queen Ashley and the Ooni have been married since October 2023. Their relationship has previously attracted public attention, with the queen speaking openly about her journey with the monarch and the challenges they faced before welcoming their son.
The couple had earlier revealed that they lost twins before the birth of Ademakinwa, with Ashley describing the experience as a difficult period for the family.
