Nairobi Mother of 2 Forced to Spend Night in Cold With Three-Month-Old Baby After Eviction Over Rent

A Nairobi mother of two forced to spent night in cold with toddler after evicted by landlord over 3 months rent arrears.

Peris Gitaru was reportedly forced to spend a night in the cold with her three-month-old baby after her landlord evicted her over rent arrears that had accumulated for three months.

Preliminary reports indicate that Peris, who hails from Kirinyaga County, travelled to Nairobi in search of better opportunities and secured a job as a hotel attendant.

A few weeks into her stay in the city, she reportedly met a man who later became her partner. The two moved in together and were blessed with a child.

During their relationship, the couple reportedly worked together to meet their household needs and provide for their growing family.

However, their situation changed when Peris became pregnant with their second child.

According to the account, the man allegedly abandoned her while she was heavily pregnant, leaving her to shoulder the responsibility of raising their first child and preparing for the arrival of another baby.

With no reliable support from her partner, Peris was left struggling to pay rent, buy food and meet other household expenses.

The financial pressure reportedly became too much for her, forcing her to leave her hotel job and start a small grocery business.

She hoped the business would provide a source of income while allowing her more time to take care of her children.

Unfortunately, the business did not succeed as expected, further worsening her financial situation.

With her income dwindling, Peris reportedly fell behind on rent payments, eventually accumulating three months of arrears.

Her situation took another difficult turn on the night of the eviction.

According to the account, Peris was returning home when she was shocked to discover that her belongings had been packed and placed outside the rented house.
