LSK Launches Legal Awareness Week 2026 to Bring Legal Services Closer to Kenyans

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has launched Legal Awareness Week 2026, an initiative aimed at making legal services more accessible to ordinary Kenyans, including those who face challenges accessing the justice system.

The launch took place on Monday, October 26, at Milimani Law Courts under the theme, “Community Advocates: Bridging the Gap Between People and Justice.”

The event was presided over by National Legal Aid Service (NLAS) Chairperson William Musyoki, who served as the chief guest. LSK President Charles Kanjama, Senior Counsel, and other legal professionals and justice sector stakeholders also attended.

Other participants included Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, LSK Council Member and Public Interest Litigation Committee Convener Wambugu Wanjohi, Legal Aid and Awareness Committee Convener Penina Wanyangu, FIDA Executive Director Sophie Kaibiria, American Bar Association Chairperson Byron Menezes and LSK Nairobi Branch Chairperson Eric Kivuva.

According to LSK, this year’s initiative marks a shift towards community-based legal aid, with advocates taking legal information and assistance beyond courtrooms and directly to the public.

The programme will use mobile outreach caravans and community legal aid hubs to engage residents, offer legal guidance and inform them about available legal services.

Following the launch, Musyoki flagged off the Legal Awareness Week Caravan, marking the start of outreach activities intended to bring advocates closer to communities and make legal assistance easier to access.

LSK said the initiative is anchored in Article 48 of the Constitution, which guarantees every person the right to access justice.

Through the campaign, the society seeks to bridge the gap between ordinary Kenyans and the justice system by making legal support more visible and responsive to people’s needs.
