Kalonzo and Gachagua Spotted Together Amid Fallout Claims

Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has travelled to Wamunyoro to meet Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, in a visit that comes as speculation swirls over cracks in the opposition.

Kalonzo made the trip on Monday, October 26. He framed it as a courtesy call between friends and relatives, reminding Kenyans that he and the impeached former deputy president have stood together as allies since Gachagua’s removal from office.

He noted that Gachagua had visited his Muuna home in Tseikuru, and that he was now returning the gesture. He wondered what could possibly be wrong with friends and cousins visiting one another.

The visit followed an earlier trip to Wamunyoro by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, which some quarters read as a sign that Gachagua was warming to Sifuna’s presidential ambitions at the expense of his alliance with Kalonzo.

Allies of the Wiper leader had also objected to DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala’s push for Gachagua to back Sifuna’s bid, with some claiming Malala is a government mole in the coalition.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Sunday, October 25, Kalonzo said he had made it his personal duty to visit his colleagues one by one and keep their friendships strong. “Kenyans want one opposition, and that is what we will give them,” he said.

He blamed the fallout narrative on deliberate interference, claiming the government is paying people to spread propaganda and sow confusion because it fears a united alternative government.

The opposition landscape remains crowded. Kalonzo is engaged in a separate track with former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, while Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua and Ndindi Nyoro have held joint engagements of their own.

Gachagua continues to expand his network through the DCP, and Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement is in touch with various leaders as the opposition works to settle on a single 2027 presidential candidate.
