JP Morgan Is Coming Into Nigeria. It Tells You Nigeria’s Economy Is Now Attractive To FDI” Oyalowo
According to a video posted on Trust TV on Sunday October 25, 2026, Ayo Oyalowo said the planned arrival of JP Morgan in Nigeria shows the economy is now attractive to foreign direct investment. He said this was a sign that the economy is stabilizing. He spoke on the Sunday Politics programme.
The host had put it to him that institutions such as the World Bank say the economy is doing well at the macro level. He added that for the average Nigerian, hunger and poverty remain. Oyalowo disagreed with the idea that the two are separate.
In his words, Ayo Oyalowo said, “When the macro is stable, that’s when you can now plan for a long-term investment, and then the results are beginning to trickle down. Just last week, this week that just ended yesterday, JP Morgan is coming into Nigeria.
“It tells you something that Nigeria’s economy is now attractive to attract foreign direct investment. Unlike just portfolio investment, we’re now attracting real investment,” he said.
He added that a major oil company which left Nigeria earlier, whose name was unclear in the recording, was now returning. He said ordinary people feel the effect when jobs are created and salaries are paid. He compared this to money reaching a family, from a worker to a spouse, children and siblings.
Oyalowo also said the Central Bank of Nigeria had reduced its interest rate for the first time in a long while. He took this as a sign that the economy is expanding and inflation is falling. He said prices are no longer as high as they were three years ago.
The host agreed with him to some extent but said the pace of relief was still slow. Oyalowo said it would take time and declined to give a timeline. These are the speaker’s views and claims.
