Governor Otuoma Tells Opposition To Keep Off Gachagua And Defends Broad-Based Government In Busia
Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has warned opposition leaders against forming a political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He accused Gachagua of pursuing personal political interests at the expense of the country’s development.
Speaking in Busia Town after meeting Bamani elders the governor defended the broad-based government. He said the arrangement had helped restore normalcy and allowed leaders to focus on development projects.
Otuoma said the Orange Democratic Movement had struggled in the opposition for many years. He argued that the broad-based arrangement started by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga gave leaders a chance to work together.
The governor claimed Gachagua had opposed the arrangement and set traps that ended up catching him. He said people do not know Gachagua well and that ODM cannot ditch the government after President William Ruto has stood with them.
Otuoma urged opposition leaders to rethink their alliances. He warned that working with Gachagua could derail the country’s development agenda.
He pointed to ongoing projects in Busia including houses and markets as proof of the benefits of political cooperation. The governor also challenged leaders alleging that Ugandan nationals were being registered as Kenyan citizens to produce evidence supporting their claims.
His remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election. Opposition leaders are weighing possible alliances as they seek to challenge the Ruto administration.
Days earlier the National Cohesion and Integration Commission cleared Otuoma and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma after investigating remarks that raised concerns over hate speech. The commission however warned both leaders against statements that could fuel hostility.
