Ghanaians React As Ruth Kadiri Advises Married People Not To Invite More Than 30 People For Wedding
According to a report by The BBC Ghana today being Monday, October 26, 2026, Nollywood filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has advised couples planning to get married to consider keeping their wedding ceremonies small, recommending that they invite no more than 30 guests to their special occasion.
The actress and filmmaker shared her views on wedding celebrations, expressing concerns about inviting large numbers of people to ceremonies that mark the beginning of a couple’s married life.
According to her, couples should consider having simple weddings rather than organising elaborate events attended by hundreds of guests.
Ruth Kadiri also made claims linking large wedding gatherings to childlessness among some married couples.
She suggested that inviting too many people, including individuals she described as witches, could have negative consequences for couples. However, these statements represent her personal views and have not been established as scientific facts.
In a post shared on Instagram, the filmmaker encouraged couples to prioritise privacy and simplicity when planning their weddings. She explained that getting married does not necessarily require an expensive ceremony or a large gathering of family members, friends and other invited guests.
“You want to do a wedding, carry yourself, invite 30 people, go to court, and from court, come back home. Call a pastor, let him pray, drink wine, and sleep,” she stated.
Her recommendation suggests that couples can celebrate their union meaningfully without spending excessively on wedding preparations or inviting a large crowd.
The comments have generated discussions about wedding traditions, the pressure couples face when organising marriage ceremonies and the advantages of keeping such occasions private.
While some people may appreciate the idea of a small and affordable wedding, others may prefer larger celebrations that allow them to share the occasion with extended family members, friends and their wider communities.
Wedding ceremonies remain important cultural and social events for many families, often involving traditional customs and religious practices.
Kadiri’s remarks have therefore added to conversations about whether couples should prioritise intimate celebrations or organise elaborate weddings.
