Fikile Mbalula Blasts Corrupt Officials After Shifting Blame Away From The ANC
African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has warned municipal officials and party members that those found guilty of corruption will face criminal prosecution and possible imprisonment.
Mbalula delivered the warning during an election campaign visit to the Western Cape ahead of South Africa’s local government elections scheduled for 4 November 2026. He addressed party activists and volunteers, emphasising their role in engaging communities and communicating the ANC’s campaign message.
He urged members to meet residents directly, listen to their concerns and respond to complaints about poor municipal leadership, wasteful expenditure and inadequate service delivery.
Mbalula also sought to distinguish the ANC’s stated political objectives from the alleged misconduct of individual members. He argued that those who misuse positions of authority for personal gain should be held accountable rather than allowing their actions to define the entire organisation.
He specifically warned against the misappropriation of municipal funds, the diversion of money intended for public services and irregularities involving government tenders. According to his remarks, individuals found guilty of such offences should face the consequences under the law.
The comments come as the ANC seeks to address public concerns about corruption, municipal administration and service delivery during its election campaign.
Mbalula also encouraged party volunteers to mobilise communities across the province and promote voter participation.
The ANC says its campaign includes commitments to accountability, improved municipal infrastructure and more effective services for residents, particularly working-class communities.
