Red Arrows Coach Speaks Out About Chiefs

Red Arrows manager Chisi Mbewe stated that triumphing over a team of Kaizer Chiefs caliber provided significant encouragement for his players.

Chiefs faced elimination from the second preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup last Friday.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat in the initial leg in Zambia, Chiefs secured a 1-0 victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, which led to the match being decided by penalties.

None the less, they ultimately did not succeed, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat in the penalty shootout.

Coach Mbewe of the Red Arrows commended his squad for their performance, asserting that defeating a prominent club like Chiefs would carry significant weight for his team.

“Firstly, before arriving in Durban, we recognized that facing Chiefs would not be straight forward,” Mbewe shared with the Red Arrows media.

“It was entirely about our mental resilience. Despite the stadium being less than full, we aimed to strengthen our mindset and demonstrate our determination to fight and earn a place in the group stage.”

Mbewe continued: “I believe this serves as a major boost for the squad. Kaizer Chiefs is not an insignificant team; they hold considerable stature in the PSL, and triumphing over them instills a great level of confidence.

“This also serves as preparation, ensuring that when other teams visit Ndola, we make the most of our home advantage and strive to progress through the group stage.”
