Blõw to Ruto as Former UDA SG Breaks Silence and Throws His Support Behind This Presidential Candid

Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has reiterated his support for former ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna to become the opposition’s presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

Malala maintained that Sifuna should be given an opportunity to compete for the country’s top office, insisting that his position reflects his personal opinion and should not be interpreted as the official stand of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

“The presidential ticket should be given to Edwin Sifuna, and I will repeat it. That is my position, not the position of DCP,” Malala stated.

His remarks have added to the ongoing debate over who should carry the opposition’s presidential flag as political leaders explore possible alliances ahead of the next election.

Sifuna, who represents Nairobi in the Senate, has attracted attention through his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s administration and his growing involvement in opposition political activities.

His political future has also become a subject of discussion following disagreements within ODM and the emergence of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has attracted several leaders opposed to the current political arrangement.

Malala’s endorsement could strengthen discussions about Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, although the process of selecting a single opposition candidate is likely to involve negotiations among different political parties and influential leaders.

Other opposition figures, including Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have also featured prominently in discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race.

The challenge for opposition leaders will be finding a candidate who can unite different political interests while attracting support across the country’s major voting blocs.

Malala’s clarification that his remarks do not represent DCP’s official position is particularly significant, as it leaves open the question of whether the party leadership shares his preference for Sifuna.

As political consultations continue, the debate over the opposition’s presidential candidate is expected to intensify.

Malala’s latest declaration has placed Sifuna back at the centre of the conversation, with attention now turning to how other opposition leaders will respond to the proposal and whether it gains wider support.
