Blõw to Ruto as Former UDA SG Breaks Silence and Throws His Support Behind This Pres Candidate

Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has declared that former ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna should be given the opposition presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Malala made his position clear while discussing the opposition’s leadership question, insisting that Sifuna deserves an opportunity to lead the coalition in the race against President William Ruto.

“The presidential ticket should be given to Edwin Sifuna, and I will repeat it. That is my position, not the position of DCP,” Malala stated.

His remarks have added a new dimension to the ongoing debate over who should represent the opposition in the next presidential election.

Malala was keen to clarify that his endorsement was a personal opinion and should not be interpreted as the official position of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Sifuna has emerged as a prominent voice in opposition politics, particularly through his criticism of Ruto’s administration and his involvement in discussions about the future of the opposition.

The Nairobi senator has also attracted attention amid disagreements within ODM and the growing influence of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has brought together politicians advocating for changes in the country’s political leadership.

However, the question of who should carry the opposition’s presidential ticket remains unsettled. Several prominent leaders, including Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Gachagua, have been mentioned in discussions surrounding possible opposition leadership.

Malala’s remarks are likely to fuel further conversations about whether the opposition should consider a younger candidate capable of attracting support across different political constituencies.

The endorsement also raises questions about how established opposition leaders will respond as negotiations over possible alliances continue.

With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, the opposition faces the task of balancing individual presidential ambitions with efforts to build a united political front.

For now, Malala has made his position clear, but whether other leaders will support Sifuna’s proposed candidacy remains to be seen.
