Beautiful Photo of Nairobi Businesswoman Rescued Alive After Being Trapped for 30 Hours Under Rubble

Zainab Mohammed, a Nairobi businesswoman, has narrated how she survived for more than 30 hours beneath the debris of a collapsed building in Eastleigh after being trapped between two refrigerators inside her shop.

Zainab was pulled out alive on Saturday evening, October 24, after spending more than a day surrounded by concrete, stones and broken building materials. The 18-storey structure came crashing down on Friday afternoon, October 23, 2026.

During an interview on Sunday, October 25, Zainab explained that the two refrigerators created a small opening where she remained trapped as rescue teams searched for people buried beneath the ruins.

The businesswoman said she was inside her ground-floor shop when she suddenly heard loud noises.

Initially, she believed people nearby were fighting and did not immediately understand what was happening.

Moments later, she realised the building was collapsing around her. She found herself surrounded by heavy debris, with no clear path to safety.

Zainab explained that stones and concrete blocked almost every side, including the space above her.

With no escape route, she remained inside the narrow gap between the refrigerators, hoping someone would find her.

As the hours passed, she turned to prayer to help her cope with the terrifying situation.

She continued asking God for protection as she waited for rescuers to reach her.

Despite the darkness, fear and uncertainty, Zainab held on until emergency teams finally located her and brought her out alive.

Her husband, Sultan, had also endured an agonising wait after narrowly escaping the disaster.

According to Zainab’s account, Sultan had left their shop shortly before the building collapsed to attend prayers at a nearby mosque.

When he returned, he discovered that the structure had crumbled, leaving him unable to reach his wife.

Worried about Zainab’s fate, Sultan later went back to the mosque to pray for her survival as rescue operations continued.

His wife was eventually rescued on Saturday evening, more than 30 hours after the building collapsed.

The disaster in Eastleigh prompted an extensive emergency response, with rescue teams working through the rubble to locate people believed to be trapped.
