Bad News for President Ruto as a Mole Is Exposed in His Administration Ahead of 2027 — Details

Fresh political differences have emerged in Bungoma County after Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa publicly withdrew his support for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

In a statement released on Monday, October 26, 2026, Barasa said he could no longer support Wetang’ula’s political direction in Bungoma, arguing that the county needed a different approach to leadership and development.

The legislator maintained that their differences were mainly about local politics and did not affect his support for President William Ruto’s broad-based government.

Barasa accused Wetang’ula of maintaining conflicting political loyalties by supporting Ruto nationally while allegedly allowing his brother, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, to advance his political interests alongside opposition figures.

Tim Wanyonyi has been associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been gaining attention ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The allegations have raised questions about Wetang’ula’s political position in Bungoma and whether his local alliances differ from his national commitments. However, Barasa’s claims do not independently establish that Wetang’ula is secretly supporting Sifuna’s camp.

Barasa also criticised what he described as family-based political succession, insisting that leadership should be determined by competition, merit and the wishes of voters rather than personal connections.

The Kimilili MP further raised concerns about the distribution of resources under a memorandum of understanding, alleging that close family associates had benefited disproportionately. These remain allegations made by Barasa.

Despite the fallout, Barasa reaffirmed his support for Ruto and said he would strengthen the United Democratic Alliance’s grassroots networks in Bungoma ahead of his anticipated 2027 gubernatorial bid.

The latest disagreement comes as political leaders across Western Kenya position themselves for the next General Election, with competing camps seeking support from voters and influential regional figures.

Wetang’ula’s response to the accusations will be important in determining how the dispute develops.

With Sifuna’s movement attracting political attention in the region, could the fallout between Barasa and Wetang’ula reshape Bungoma’s political alliances before 2027?
