Young Africans Part Ways With Manqoba Mngqithi After Just Three Months in Charge
Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC have reportedly parted ways with South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi after just three months at the helm, bringing his brief spell with the club to an abrupt end.
The decision was announced on Saturday, 24 October 2026, following a goalless draw against TRA United in the Tanzanian Premier League. The result left Young Africans second on the league table, five points behind arch-rivals Simba SC, who are coached by fellow South African tactician Steve Barker.
Mngqithi’s departure marks a disappointing end to a tenure that began with expectations of keeping Young Africans competitive in domestic football. The experienced coach joined the Tanzanian side in July 2026 on a two-year contract after leaving South African club Golden Arrows.
During his time at Golden Arrows, Mngqithi helped the team secure a top-eight finish in the South African Premiership before taking up the challenge of coaching one of Tanzania’s biggest clubs.
However, his time in East Africa proved considerably shorter than anticipated, with the club deciding to make a change less than four months after his appointment.
Young Africans also confirmed the departure of fitness coach Chyna Mokaila, who had been part of Mngqithi’s technical team. The club thanked both coaches for their contributions during their time at the organisation.
The Tanzanian champions have reportedly begun searching for a new head coach as they look to revive their campaign and close the gap on Simba SC.
The five-point difference between the two rivals adds pressure to Young Africans as they seek to defend their position among Tanzania’s leading clubs. Their latest result appears to have intensified concerns about the team’s progress, although the club’s precise reasons for ending Mngqithi’s contract were not fully detailed in the announcement.
For Mngqithi, the departure represents another unexpected career development after his move abroad offered an opportunity to test himself in a different football environment.
His next coaching destination remains unclear, while Young Africans must now identify a replacement capable of guiding the club through the remainder of the season.
