“We do not like you” Northerners tell Tinubu at the APC campaign flag-off in Kaduna while speaking

A section of the crowd at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday booed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, chanting “Ba ma yi” as he addressed supporters at the Ranchers Bees Stadium.

According to Daily Trust, the Hausa expression, which roughly translates to “we don’t like you”, indicated a lack of support for the President among some of those present at the event.

Tinubu visited Kaduna on Saturday for the commencement of his 2027 presidential campaign, with thousands of APC supporters gathering at the stadium.

However, the President encountered an unexpected reaction when he began his speech. After shouting “Nigeria”, some members of the crowd responded with “Ba ma yi”.

The reaction reportedly continued when he called out “Kaduna”, prompting a different response from the audience. Tinubu subsequently said “Sai Uba Sani” himself before proceeding with his address.

Some of the individuals who booed the President told Daily Trust that their actions were motivated by concerns over insecurity and the economic hardship associated with his administration’s policies.

Addressing the gathering, Tinubu acknowledged the widespread hunger in the country but blamed the opposition for the situation. He also pledged to tackle the hardship if Nigerians re-elect him in 2027.

Earlier in the programme, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the party’s flags to the seven governors in the North-West geopolitical zone.

The governors are Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, Dikko Radda of Katsina, Nasiru Idris of Kebbi, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

Daily Trust reports that all seven governors are serving their first terms in office and are seeking re-election under the APC.

The campaign flag-off was also attended by governors from Lagos, Bayelsa, Kogi, Niger, Ogun, Adamawa, Imo, Yobe, Borno, Kwara and Ondo states, among others.

Other prominent attendees included the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas; Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; ministers; members of the National Assembly; and former governors.
