People Used To Buy A Liter Of Petrol For N3000 Under Jonathan, They Buy It In Black Market-Afegbua

Edo State Commissioner for Information Kazeem Afegbua has argued that fuel scarcity under former President Goodluck Jonathan was so severe that Nigerians were forced to buy petrol on the black market for as much as 3,000 naira per litre far higher than what is paid at filling stations today.

Speaking on Arise TV, Afegbua said, “I think it is proper, fit and appropriate at this point to allow a man who has started certain policies to let those policies sink in. We are no longer seeing queues at filling stations. People used to buy a litre of petrol for 3,000 naira under Jonathan on the black market. But now none of that is in existence again,” he said.

He also pointed to salary arrears and the minimum wage as further evidence of how far Nigeria has come under the current administration. He noted that previous governments, including Jonathan’s, left workers waiting up to seven months for their salaries, while the Tinubu administration has maintained regular wage payments and raised the minimum wage to 70,000 naira with room, he suggested, for further increases.

Afegbua said the cumulative effect of these improvements makes a compelling case for re-election, arguing that Nigerians should reward the president’s efforts at the polls and give him another four years to consolidate the gains already made.
