Today’s Headlines: We Will Vote Massively for Tinubu — Enugu Community; You are our role model’, Sultan hails Oba of Benin at 10th coronation anniversary durbar

The people of Attakwu Akegbe Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have vowed to cast their votes massively for President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Peter Mbah for second terms in office in 2027.

The endorsement was announced during the “Attakwu Akegbe Community Mega Rally in Support of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Peter Mbah,” held at the community’s Civic Centre on Saturday.

The traditional ruler of Attakwu Akegbe Autonomous Community, Igwe Greg Ugwu, said the endorsement was informed by the infrastructural development and other achievements recorded by Mbah’s administration in the community.

Ugwu said the governor had demonstrated uncommon commitment to the development of the community through the construction of roads and other projects.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, has described the Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, as a role model to traditional rulers in Nigeria.

The Sultan stated this yesterday during a royal durbar organised as part of activities marking the Benin monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary.

Formerly a rare spectacle in Benin, the durbar has become a recurring feature since Oba Ewuare II ascended the throne of his ancestors 10 years ago.

Represented by the Emir of Kagara in Niger State, Malam Ahmed Garba Gunna, the Sultan paid tribute to Oba Ewuare, who rode on horseback from his palace to Garrick Memorial Ground to lead a massive crowd at the royal horse race.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has sued the Federal Government at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice over alleged diversion, irregular expenditure and failure to account for N78.8bn allocated to cash-transfer and social-protection programmes.

SERAP, in a statement released by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, on Sunday, said the allegations involved the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the National Cash Transfer Office and the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office.

The allegations were documented in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2024 Annual Report, published on August 7, 2026.

According to the report, the findings covered various periods between January 2023 and December 31, 2024.

A security guard, Sunday Adedeji, popularly known as Portable, has been murdered by suspected gunmen who invaded a filling station in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

Adedeji was allegedly murdered in cold blood by the unknown armed assailants who attacked the filling station.

According to a statement from the media unit of office of the Senator representing the district on Saturday, the hoodlums also broke into the station’s supermarket during the overnight invasion and carted away goods and valuables worth millions of naira.

The media unit disclosed that the attack was not the first targeted at the establishment, noting that days before the August 15 governorship election, armed men had attempted to burgle the station and attack the same security guard.
