Raphinha Names His Choice for the World’s Best Player—No Debate

According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Barcelona captain Raphinha has backed Lamine Yamal as the best footballer in the world at present, claiming that the teenager stands comfortably ahead of the player he considers the second-best.

During an appearance on CazéTV, the Brazilian international spoke highly of Yamal’s performances, making it clear that he believes the youngster’s superiority should not be a subject of serious debate.

“Lamine is proving that he is the best player in the world right now, and I don’t think there is any room for debate about that,” Raphinha said.

“For me, he is the best player in the world, perhaps by a very big margin over whoever is second.”

Yamal’s rise to prominence began in 2023 when he earned a place in Barcelona’s first team under then-manager Xavi Hernández.

Since making his breakthrough, the Spanish winger has continued to establish himself as a central figure in Barcelona’s attack. His remarkable development has also made him a frequent topic of conversation among supporters and football experts.

Raphinha’s comments are noteworthy because he has the opportunity to observe Yamal’s abilities closely, both during matches and in training. As his teammate, the Brazilian has witnessed the youngster’s growth and the confidence and creativity he contributes to Barcelona’s attacking play.

The captain’s praise further demonstrates the enormous expectations surrounding Yamal as he continues to deliver impressive performances for both his club and Spain.

Despite being only 19, Yamal has emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The prestigious ceremony is due to be held in London on Monday, with the award set to recognise the best-performing footballer in the world.

Several prominent players are expected to compete for the honour, but Raphinha’s comments have added another dimension to the debate surrounding Yamal’s chances of winning it.

Ultimately, the outcome will depend on the votes of the award’s selectors. Nevertheless, Barcelona’s captain has made his opinion clear, expressing complete confidence that Yamal is currently football’s leading player and suggesting that his advantage over his closest competitor is considerable.
