Ruto Fires Back at Ndindi Nyoro Over Dangote’s KPC Shares Deal

President William Ruto has launched a fresh attack on Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro over his criticism of Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote’s acquisition of shares in the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC).

Speaking during a church service at AIC Kasina in Mwingi, Kitui County, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Ruto accused critics of opposing the transaction after previously questioning the price at which KPC shares were offered to investors.

“Huwezi kutapeli Wakenya vile ulitapeli watu wa Kenya Power,” the President said, warning that his administration would not allow brokers to benefit at the expense of Kenyans.

Ruto argued that some investors had previously wanted KPC shares sold at Sh5 instead of the Sh9 offer price, but were now criticising the government after Dangote acquired a stake in the company.

He claimed that some brokers had bought Kenya Power shares at Sh2 before selling them at significantly higher prices, arguing that similar practices would not be tolerated in the KPC transaction.

The President maintained that the government was committed to protecting public resources and ensuring that Kenyans received fair value for their investments.

Dangote acquired approximately 24.76 per cent of KPC for Sh42.5 billion, becoming the company’s second-largest shareholder after the Kenyan government, which retains a 35 per cent stake.

However, Nyoro has raised concerns about the transaction, alleging that the deal could pave the way for Dangote to acquire majority control of the strategic petroleum infrastructure company.

The MP has also questioned the involvement of public institutions in the purchase and subsequent sale of KPC shares, arguing that Kenyans deserve greater transparency regarding the transaction.

Nyoro’s allegations remain disputed, with the government defending the sale as a legitimate commercial transaction intended to attract private investment.

The dispute has intensified debate over the management of public assets, the protection of pensioners’ funds and the role of foreign investors in Kenya’s strategic industries.

As the political exchange continues, questions remain over the transparency of the transaction and whether the deal will deliver the expected long-term benefits to Kenyans.
