Kaizer Chiefs Reportedly Complete Signing of Pirates Winger

In a dramatic twist that has sent shockwaves through South African football, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly signed Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng on a pre-contract. The unexpected transfer comes amid a period of rebuilding for Amakhosi under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is determined to assemble a competitive squad after a disappointing debut season.

Saleng’s move, though surprising, follows months of uncertainty at Orlando Pirates. Despite being fit, the talented winger did not feature in any matches for the Buccaneers in 2025. His last appearance for the club was in December 2024, after which he was reportedly disgruntled over contractual disputes. At one point, Saleng was even said to have gone AWOL, intensifying speculation about his future. Adding to the intrigue, Saleng played for Bafana Bafana in a CHAN qualifier in March 2025, showing that he remained match-ready despite being sidelined at club level. With tensions between him and Pirates management unresolved, rumours of his departure only grew louder.

Now, with multiple reports indicating that the former Free State Stars attacker has signed with Kaizer Chiefs, the Soweto derby is set for a new chapter of drama. Chiefs, in desperate need of attacking firepower, may have pulled off a masterstroke by capturing Saleng—a player once seen as a key figure at Pirates. This move, if confirmed, marks one of the most high-profile cross-town transfers in recent PSL history. It underscores the Chiefs’ intent to reclaim their place among South Africa’s elite teams while highlighting the deepening crisis at Pirates regarding player management and retention. Fans will now eagerly await official confirmation and Saleng’s first appearance in Amakhosi colours—an image that will surely ignite fierce emotions on both sides of Soweto.
