2028 Elections: Gizela Tetteh-Agbotui Reveals Why NDC Will Retain Awutu Senya West
The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizela Tetteh-Agbotui, has expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will retain the constituency in the next general election despite the recent election of a New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional chairman from the area.
Dr Kwabena Essibu, a native of Senya Breku in the constituency, was recently elected Central Regional Chairman of the NPP, raising questions about the party’s prospects of securing the parliamentary seat in future elections.
Speaking during the NDC constituency executive elections, Ms Tetteh-Agbotui dismissed concerns that Dr Essibu’s new position could strengthen the NPP’s chances of unseating her.
She maintained that the NDC remained committed to defending the constituency, which she considers an important electoral stronghold for the party.
The MP disclosed that she had personally congratulated Dr Essibu on his election but made it clear that she intended to retain the Awutu Senya West parliamentary seat for the NDC.
“In fact, when Prof. Essibu won the regional election, I called him. I told him, ‘Prof. congratulations, but this seat, you are not taking it anywhere’. So as a party we will continue to work very hard to protect what we have fought for,” she said.
Ms Tetteh-Agbotui also called for unity among NDC members following the constituency executive elections, stressing the importance of cooperation in strengthening the party’s electoral prospects.
She urged the newly elected constituency executives to intensify efforts to reinforce the party’s structures, mobilise supporters and prepare adequately for the next general election.
