Berekum Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by FC Samartex 1996 in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek Eight encounter at the Golden City Park on Sunday after failing to convert their scoring opportunities.

The Bibires went into the fixture hoping to secure a third consecutive league victory following impressive wins over Debibi United and Heart of Lions.

However, their inability to find the back of the net denied them the opportunity to maintain their winning momentum.

Chelsea enjoyed the advantage of playing at home, where they have established an impressive record in recent months, but could not make their opportunities count against a determined Samartex side.

The hosts were looking to build on their attacking performances in their previous two matches, during which they scored five goals without conceding.

This time, however, they struggled to turn their chances into goals as the visitors stood firm to secure a valuable point on the road.

Samartex arrived in Berekum buoyed by a 2-1 victory over defending champions Medeama SC in their previous league outing.

The Timber Giants continued their positive recent record against Chelsea, extending their unbeaten run in the fixture to six consecutive league meetings.

The Samreboi-based side had also avoided defeat in their previous two league visits to the Golden City Park, with both encounters ending in goalless draws.

Sunday’s result further underlined Samartex’s ability to frustrate Chelsea, who will be disappointed not to have taken full advantage of their home fixture.

For the Bibires, the draw brings their winning run to an end at two matches, while Samartex will take encouragement from another disciplined away performance.

Both sides will now turn their attention to their upcoming league fixtures as they look to build on the result and strengthen their positions in the Ghana Premier League standings.
