Today’s Headlines: I Will Not Campaign For Any Politician-Daurawa, Kenneth Okonkwo Mourns Duru
The Commandant-General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has said he is not a politician and will not campaign for any politician ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daily Trust had reported that the cleric and the immediate past chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, among other clerics, were named in the Kano APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Advisory Committee list.
The two clerics came under fire following the release of the list by the Kano State APC chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, with many observers condemning their inclusion.
But in a Facebook post in Hausa on Saturday, Daurawa said he only wishes success for whoever will uphold justice, show compassion for the poor and improve their lives.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has mourned Nollywood actor Francis Duru, who died at the age of 57 after a brief illness.
In a post on his official X handle, Okonkwo described the late actor as a talent who would never be forgotten.
He said he was heartbroken by Duru’s death, describing him as a dear younger colleague whose talent and humility left a lasting impression.
The Nollywood veteran-turned politician further eulogised Duru, saying he was exceptionally gifted, passionate about his craft, respectful, and remarkably humble.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu of blaming the opposition for the country’s economic hardship. He said the President was trying to evade responsibility for his administration’s policies.
Tinubu had earlier on Saturday blamed his political opponents for hunger and poverty in the country while speaking at the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
“I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, said Nigerians were entitled to demand answers from the APC-led government over rising living costs, poverty, insecurity and questions surrounding public expenditure.
President Bola Tinubu has charged the West African College of Physicians to find solutions to the migration of doctors from Nigeria and other West African countries.
The college’s Assistant Secretary-General, Hasibu Galadanci, disclosed this on Saturday at a press conference in Abuja as the institution began its golden jubilee and annual general and scientific meeting.
Galadanci said Tinubu raised the issue, popularly known as ‘japa’, during a meeting with the college’s leadership.
“In fact, when we saw the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Tinubu, that was one of the main things he charged us with, that we should discuss the ‘japa’ syndrome and find solutions to them,” he said.
