Tinubu’s Kaduna Rally: APC Alleges Plot by Atiku, ADC to Spread Fake News
According to a report by DAILY POST on Saturday 24 October 2026, the APC has levied accusations against the ADC and former Vise President Atiku Abubakar, claiming that they were involved in a plot to defame President Bola Tinubu and other party officials prior to the APC’s presidential campaign rally in Kaduna State.
Statement signed by APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson Dele Alake and released on Saturday, October 24, 2026, made the accusation.
Atiku and the ADC were accused by the council of trying to influence public opinion by disseminating deepfake videos, fabricated documents, and artificial intelligence-generated content.
The APC claims that the plot was an attempt to discredit Tinubu, Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, and other party leaders in the run-up to the campaign’s launch.
The council claimed to have noticed what it deemed as a concerted effort to disseminate false information regarding the ruling party in the hours preceding the rally.
The photo of a security vehicle parked next to an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis was one of the alleged incidents that was later circulated.
Opposition figures allegedly used the photo to suggest that security personnel had been sent to guard the APC’s billboards, which the party denied.
Atiku allegedly shared the story on his official social media accounts after it had been published in a national newspaper.
The council characterized the event as an effort to cast the APC in a bad light and stir up public disapproval of the party’s political initiatives.
The governing party was also worried about a letter that was said to have been written by Governor Uba Sani and sent to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who was the head of the APC presidential campaign council. The letter was circulating online.
The APC said the paper proved the Kaduna State Government had given them N2.3 trillion to pay for their rally.
The claim was rejected by the council, who questioned the state’s ability to allocate such a large sum to a single political event and deemed the reported expenditure as unfounded.
The APC cited the budget estimates for 2024, 2025, and 2026 for Kaduna State, which it placed at N458.271 billion, N790.439 billion, and N985.9 billion, respectively, to bolster its case.
The three-year totals, it insisted, were still lower than the N2.3 trillion figure circulating on the internet.
At the rally, the campaign council said, its opponents might play altered recordings, old videos, and deepfake footage to make people look angry with the APC and its leaders.
Consequently, it urged Nigerians to critically examine news stories shared on social media and other sites for information rather than taking them at face value.
The APC urged the public to reject what it portrayed as attempts to undermine the party, while accusing Atiku and the ADC of trying to use misinformation for political gain.
Unfortunately, the report omitted any response from Atiku Abubakar or the ADC and only included the APC’s accusations in the statement.
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) was getting ready to flag off its presidential campaign in Kaduna State on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the controversy arose.
