“Since they’ve given him the gold mine, the people are benefiting” –Paul Yandoh on Ibrahim Mahama

“Since they’ve given him the gold mine, the people are benefiting” –Paul Yandoh on Ibrahim Mahama

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Paul Yandoh, a former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended businessman Ibrahim Mahama over road works he says he saw under way in Damang. He argues that residents of the mining community are starting to feel the benefits of the resources taken from their land.

Yandoh made the remarks while recounting a recent trip to Akwatia in the Eastern Region, where he attended a funeral. On the way, he passed through several communities before reaching Damang, where he came across road construction that, by his account, is being carried out by Mr Mahama.

He stressed that he was speaking from first-hand observation. “Ibrahim Mahama is working,” he said, adding that he had personally driven past the site and could vouch for what he saw.

Yandoh described the development as encouraging because people living in mining areas should gain directly from what is extracted around them. In his view, the community has begun to see returns since the gold mine was given to Mr Mahama, which he called “the essence of change.”

He maintained that development must show up in people’s daily lives and should not remain at the level of promises. “Change should impact positively in all of our lives,” he said.

Yandoh also linked his remarks to the position of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has argued that gains in economic indicators, such as a stronger cedi and lower inflation, must translate into better living conditions for ordinary Ghanaians.

The former NPP communicator urged those undertaking the projects to keep going in order to ease the hardships residents face. He further appealed to other individuals and companies profiting from mining to invest in their host communities. According to him, communities should not remain poor while valuable natural resources are taken from their lands, and mining must leave lasting benefits for the people who live there.
