Ruto Makes Fresh Appointments as Atwoli Gets New Role in Government
President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have announced new appointments and renewals of terms across government institutions, with Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli among those selected to serve on a national board.
Atwoli has been appointed to the National Board for Social Protection for a three-year term beginning October 23, 2026. The appointment was made by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua under the provisions of the Social Protection Act.
He will serve alongside Kenneth Odire and Richard Musau, who were also appointed to the board for the same period.
The National Board for Social Protection supports the coordination and implementation of programmes designed to assist vulnerable members of society. Atwoli’s appointment places him among the individuals tasked with contributing to the board’s work.
Meanwhile, President Ruto has renewed the appointments of two officials heading key institutions.
Sophia Olesambu will continue serving as the non-executive chairperson of the Mineral Rights Board for another three years. Her new term took effect on October 23.
The board plays a role in overseeing matters relating to mineral rights, including activities connected to mineral exploration and extraction.
The President also reappointed Collins Odote as the non-executive chairperson of the Council of Legal Education for a further three years, beginning October 23. The council is responsible for maintaining standards in legal education and training in Kenya.
More Changes Across Government Institutions
Other appointments were announced in the tourism, regional development and education sectors.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano renewed the appointments of Francis Nkoitoi and Albert Long’ora to the board of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute. Nkoitoi’s term began on October 23, while Long’ora’s is scheduled to start on November 2, 2026.
The institute is involved in wildlife research and training, areas that support conservation efforts and the management of wildlife resources.
East African Community and ASALs Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul also reappointed Judith Kirorei, Pacha Ntaika and Agnes Nairowua to the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority.
In the education sector, Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Alexander Flemings Losikiria to serve on the Council for the Kenya Education Management Institute for three years, effective October 23.
The appointments represent a series of leadership changes and renewed terms across several public institutions, covering social protection, mineral rights, legal education, wildlife research, regional development and education management.
