Mussa Dankwah Says NDC Flagbearer Race Could Be Uncontested If Asiedu Nketiah Stays Out
The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could face little or no competition in its upcoming flagbearership race if the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, decides not to contest the position.
Dankwah’s comments come amid growing discussions about the future leadership of the governing party as it prepares to select a presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
According to the pollster, Asiedu Nketiah’s decision regarding a possible presidential ambition could significantly influence the direction of the contest and the choices available to party delegates.
He indicated that the NDC’s flagbearership race could take a different turn if the experienced party leader decides against entering the competition.
Dankwah has previously discussed the potential impact of Asiedu Nketiah’s political ambitions on the contest, noting that support for him as National Chairman does not necessarily translate into support for him to become the party’s presidential candidate.
In September 2026, Dankwah said polling conducted by his organisation suggested that Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson was better positioned than Asiedu Nketiah in the race to become the NDC’s flagbearer.
He explained that the party’s delegates would consider several factors when deciding who should lead the NDC into the next general election, including the candidates’ performance in government, their appeal among party supporters and their ability to compete against the opposition.
The latest discussion surrounding the flagbearership race comes at a time when Asiedu Nketiah has decided not to seek re-election as National Chairman.
The NDC confirmed that he did not pick nomination forms for the party’s 2026 national executive elections before nominations closed on October 21. His decision has intensified speculation that he may be considering a presidential bid ahead of the party’s 2028 flagbearer contest.
Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, has served as the party’s National Chairman since December 2022, when he defeated Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo at the party’s National Delegates Congress.
Although he has not formally declared an intention to contest the presidency, his decision not to seek another term as chairman has generated renewed interest in his political plans.
