BAT: I Think The Problem Between Him And Aregbesola Was Who Would Become Governor – Akande Reveals

In an interview on Symfoni TV on Friday, October 23, 2026, Laolu Akande, a former presidential aide, discussed the political disagreement between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, attributing their differences to a contest over who would become governor.

Akande spoke while reflecting on Tinubu’s political history, his relationships with influential figures, and the disagreements that have emerged among politicians over leadership positions and political influence.

Addressing the issue, Akande said, “ I think the problem between him and Aregbesola was who would become governor.” His explanation suggested that the disagreement was connected to political succession and competing interests over who would occupy the governorship position.

Tinubu and Aregbesola were prominent figures in the political structure associated with the APC in the Southwest. Their relationship has attracted attention because of their previous political association and the disagreements that later became part of discussions about the party’s internal affairs.

Akande’s remarks highlighted how competition over political positions can create divisions between individuals who previously worked together. Disagreements over succession, party leadership and the distribution of political influence have often shaped relationships among political actors in Nigeria.

During the same interview, Akande also explained why he would have participated in Tinubu’s presidential campaign if not for the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the APC in 2023. His comments reflected his reservations about the religious composition of the ticket and provided further insight into his views on Tinubu’s political decisions.

He concluded by drawing attention to the role of political ambitions in the disagreement between Tinubu and Aregbesola, while explaining that his own decision not to join Tinubu’s campaign was influenced by the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
