Kenya Harlequin knock out Nondies to reach 1st Impala Floodlit final since 2014
Kenya Harlequin have booked a place in the Impala Floodlit final after beating Nondies 28-24 in a semi-final played at the Impala Club.
The win saw them end a 12-year wait for a place in the Floodlit final, returning to the showpiece match for the first time since 2014, when they fell 30-3 to KCB.
In a dramatic twist of fate, Quins will once again face KCB, the same team they met in that 2014 final.
Quins were quick off the blocks, opening the scoring through centre Alvin Mutachi, with Faran Juma adding the extras to secure an early lead. Patrice Agunda’s charges then doubled their advantage when Albert Alela crossed the line for a 14-0 lead.
After an earlier missed attempt, Martin Juma sparked a response for Nondies, setting up Victor Rogena to pull one back with a try, though Juma failed to convert. However, Patrick Wainaina ensured Quins took a comfortable cushion into the break, landing a try that Juma successfully converted.
Nondies rallied in the second half, with Charles Omondi grounding a try to cut the deficit to 10 points. Minutes later, Moses Begi drew Nondies even closer with another try, which Timothy Lugalia converted to bring them within four points of Quins.
Quins widened the gap once more through Dave Mwangi, whose try was converted by Juma to make it 28-17. Stormy Odhiambo landed a late try for Nondies to trim the deficit back to four points, but Quins held firm to seal the victory.
