Kaizer Motaung Jnr Issues Statement on Kaizer Chiefs’ First-Team Situation After CAF Exit

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has issued a statement addressing the club’s first-team situation following their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, reaffirming the club’s commitment to head coach Fernando da Cruz and his technical team.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 24, Motaung Jnr acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the club’s continental exit against Red Arrows, recognising the frustration felt by supporters, players and other members of the Amakhosi community.

Despite the setback, the Chiefs executive stressed that the club would not abandon its long-term plans because of one disappointing result. He explained that sustained success requires consistency, resilience and commitment to a clearly defined sporting strategy.

Motaung Jnr reaffirmed the club’s confidence in Da Cruz and his coaching staff, saying they remain trusted to implement the football philosophy and development pathway intended to deliver lasting success.

He also praised the technical team’s professionalism, work ethic and dedication to improving the squad, noting that the players had continued to fight despite the result and the injuries affecting the team.

The Sporting Director acknowledged that Chiefs had made progress in important areas of their sporting project but admitted that setbacks require honest assessment. He said the club would continue analysing performances, learning from mistakes and making improvements to strengthen its competitiveness.

Addressing the supporters, Motaung Jnr recognised their disappointment while reminding them that the club’s expectations remain high. He emphasised that everyone involved in the football department is responsible for helping Chiefs meet those standards.

His message was clear: unity is essential as the club works through a challenging period. Rather than allowing frustration over the Confederation Cup exit to divide the team and its supporters, Chiefs want to maintain stability and concentrate on the objectives ahead.

The statement provides renewed public backing for Da Cruz at a time when questions have emerged about the team’s performances. However, the coach and his players will still need to deliver improved results to justify the confidence shown by the club’s leadership.

Kaizer Chiefs now move forward with their domestic commitments, aiming to rebuild momentum and demonstrate progress under their current technical team.
