Today’s Headlines:Igbos never agreed to four-year term with Obi-Umahi; Francis Duru dies at 57

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said Igbos never agreed to produce Nigeria’s President for just four years with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Umahi made the remark in an interview with Arise Television aired on Friday, where he said Obi should have consulted him and other political stakeholders in the South-East before making such a comment.

Umahi noted that Obi should have consulted because his future, that of Ebonyi State, and the entire South-East are involved.

He said: “Igbos should be president and it’s four years while others are doing eight years. Who in South-East reached that agreement with our brother Peter Obi to say that you will go for us?

Veteran Nollywood actor, Francis Duru, has passed away.

He died at the age of 57 following a brief illness.

His family announced this in a statement published on the actor’s Instagram page in the early hours of Friday.

“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness.

We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in peace. Amen,” the statement read.

Baring last-minute change in plans, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will represent President Bola Tinubu in more than 20 States during the reelection campaign which will kick off in Kaduna, on October 24, 2026.

This is according to the party’s campaign schedule released late Thursday.

In a copy of the schedule sighted by Daily Trust, Tinubu would take a break from the campaign on November 2 when the trail lands in Cross River, absent from Gombe on November 3, Nasarawa on November 4, Ekiti on November 5, but join the campaign in Rivers on November 7.

The President will be absent from Ebonyi on November 9, Jigawa on November 10, Ondo on November 11, Edo on November 12, then return to Plateau on November 14, absent from Yobe on November 16, Kebbi on November 17, Akwa Ibom on November 18, Anambra on November 19.

Some youths in Kaduna have been captured chanting “Ba ma yi,” a Hausa phrase meaning “We don’t want,” as vehicles bearing campaign images of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima passed by.

The incident was captured in a video currently circulating on social media, showing the youths standing by the roadside and chanting the phrase as the APC-branded vehicles drove past.

The vehicles were seen carrying images of Tinubu and Shettima as party supporters continued to arrive in Kaduna ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign rally scheduled to take place in the state on Saturday.

President Tinubu is expected to visit Kaduna for the flag-off of the party’s presidential campaign activities.
