Remembering Eight Iconic Efiewura Actors And The Legendary Roles They Left Behind

Efiewura, Ghana’s long-running Akan-language sitcom, has entertained households for decades by capturing the humorous dynamics of compound house living. As reported by GhanaWeb on Friday, October 23, 2026, the iconic series is remembering eight cast members who brought its beloved characters to life before their passing.

The latest loss to the fraternity is Kwame Dzokoto, famous for playing the hilarious Judge Koboo. Dzokoto collapsed and passed away during a live broadcast on Owass Radio in Tarkwa on October 22, 2026. His passing follows that of Mercy Little Smith, who played his sharp-witted screen wife, Benyiwaa, until her death on December 17, 2024.

The show’s foundational star, John Evans Bosompem (Bob Santo), who played the central landlord, passed away in May 2002 at age 67. Veteran actress Margaret Quainoo (Araba Stamp), renowned for her role as the neighborhood gossip, died in July 2006. Michael Moncar, who portrayed Akoto, passed away in March 2013 following a brief illness.

The cast also mourned Lucky Azasoo-Nkornoo (MC Flava Pounds), who played Adwoa Smart’s husband before passing away at age 27 in May 2016. Later that year, in November 2016, legendary screen icon Ebenezer Donkor (Katawere) died at age 78 after a career spanning over 100 films. In June 2017, Kofi Agyiri, who played Bra Kofi—one-third of the show’s famous comic love triangle—passed away from a kidney condition.

Through their rich performances in Twi and Pidgin, these eight actors shaped a cornerstone of Ghanaian television heritage. While their departures leave an unfillable void in the country’s arts and entertainment industry, their enduring comedic legacies continue to resonate with generations of fans across the nation.
