Obasanjo’s Son Joins ‘Tinubu Must Stay’ Movement Ahead of 2027 Election
Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined a movement backing President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday, 22 October 2026, Olujonwo was formally welcomed into the Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance Foundation (TMS), a group seeking to promote the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and advocate continuity in government policies.
Olujonwo, who is also the president of the Buhari Youth Organization and Project One Nigeria, serves as Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Housing.
Explaining his decision, he said his involvement in Nigeria’s political development and his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2014 informed his position.
He also recalled his involvement during the period when his father hosted Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari, a development linked to the political realignment that eventually led to the formation of the APC.
Olujonwo argued that some of the achievements of Tinubu’s administration had been misunderstood and stressed the need for supporters of the government to communicate its policies and accomplishments more effectively.
He highlighted developments including the absence of a strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the student loan scheme, increased construction activities and renewed investor interest as issues deserving greater public attention.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and TMS national coordinator, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, said Olujonwo’s background gave him a distinct perspective on economic reforms.
Inuwa also referenced economic policies introduced under Obasanjo, particularly the liberalisation of the telecommunications and banking sectors, which he said helped lay the foundation for subsequent economic growth.
He warned that reversing ongoing reforms could undermine investor confidence and long-term economic development.
He also pointed to the naira, the stock market and the Dangote Refinery as important considerations in discussions about Nigeria’s economic future.
Similarly, Marcel Ngogbehei, a former coordinator of the Obidient movement and current TMS director-general, praised Obasanjo’s economic legacy, particularly debt relief and telecommunications liberalisation.
Ngogbehei said the organisation intended to promote factual communication and evidence-based discussions rather than propaganda.
The movement said it planned to expand its engagement with professional bodies, youth groups and community organisations through online forums, virtual town halls, research and fact-checking initiatives.
