” Mahama Told Me That If Not Otumfuo I Wouldn’t Have Been Appointed ” – Ofori Boadi Sparks Reactions

Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama credited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, with playing a key role in his appointment.

Speaking in an interview, Ofori Boadi reportedly said the president told him that Otumfuo’s intervention was instrumental in securing the position. EIB Network, which operates Abusua 96.5 FM and GHOne TV, reported the disclosure.

The comments have reignited debate over the influence of traditional leaders on political appointments in Ghana, particularly within the Ashanti Region. They have also highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Manhyia Palace and the national government.

Since assuming office, Ofori Boadi has introduced several initiatives, including plans to organise street trading through uniform container stores and the installation of digital billboards in Kumasi.

Although some residents have expressed support for aspects of his administration, the mayor’s remarks have prompted questions about how traditional authority influences political decisions and whether appointments adequately reflect merit.

The development has further fuelled discussions about the role of traditional institutions in contemporary Ghanaian politics and their relationship with the presidency.
