Let’s be honest with each other. He gave them the money to pick the forms for him” – Abena Gbagbo

In an Official Facebook Post on 23 October 2026, Abena Gbagbo shared her candid view on the news that NDC supporters had picked nomination forms for Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to recontest the National Chairmanship position. She suggested that the gesture was not entirely spontaneous, writing: “Let’s be honest with each other. He gave them the money to pick the forms for him.”

Her remark adds a layer of skepticism to the narrative of grassroots support, implying that financial backing from Ampofo himself may have facilitated the move. This perspective reflects a broader theme in Ghanaian politics where questions often arise about whether acts of loyalty or endorsement are genuinely voluntary or influenced by resources provided by aspirants.

The post comes at a time when the NDC is navigating internal contests and positioning itself for the 2028 elections. Ampofo’s decision to recontest pits him against other influential figures within the party, and reactions like Gbagbo’s highlight the scrutiny surrounding campaign processes and the authenticity of support.

Public responses to her statement are likely to be divided. Supporters of Ampofo may dismiss the claim as cynical, insisting that his long service and influence naturally inspire loyalty. Critics, however, may echo her sentiment, arguing that money often plays a decisive role in internal party politics.

Ultimately, Abena Gbagbo’s words underscore the tension between perception and reality in political contests. Whether the forms were picked out of genuine conviction or financial facilitation, her post reminds readers that transparency and authenticity remain central concerns in Ghana’s political culture.
