Kenya Met Warns of Flash Floods as Rainfall Is Expected in Several Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that several parts of the country are expected to receive rainfall over the next seven days, with some areas facing possible flash floods.

In its latest weather forecast covering October 22 to 29, 2026, the department said rainfall was expected in several counties across the country. It also warned that isolated storms could cause flash floods in some areas.

Counties expected to receive rainfall include Nairobi, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Nakuru, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Kisii, Nyamira, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Mandera and Wajir.

Other affected counties include Garissa, Tana River, Laikipia, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kajiado, Turkana and West Pokot.

However, the department noted that rainfall may not be the same across all areas. Some places may receive heavy rain while nearby areas remain dry.

The weather agency identified parts of Mandera, Wajir, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale as areas where isolated storms could occur and lead to flash floods.

Residents living in areas that are likely to flood have been urged to remain alert and follow official weather updates.

Motorists and pedestrians have also been advised to avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers and bridges. Fast-moving water can be dangerous, even when it does not appear deep.

People have also been warned against standing under trees during thunderstorms because of the danger of lightning strikes.

Those living near rivers or on steep slopes should watch for signs of flooding or possible landslides.

The rainfall comes as Kenya enters the October-to-December short-rains season. The rains are important for farmers, livestock keepers and communities that depend on water for daily use.

Farmers in areas expected to receive rainfall may benefit from improved soil moisture, while residents are encouraged to take safety precautions as weather conditions change.

The public is advised to keep checking updates from the Kenya Meteorological Department for the latest forecasts and warnings.Source https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CDawKpATj/
