Ibrahim Mahama Wins Praise From Former NPP Communicator Over Damang Mine Projects
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director Paul Yandoh has commended businessman Ibrahim Mahama for development projects being undertaken in Damang following the takeover of the local gold mine by his company.
Yandoh said he had personally witnessed the ongoing developments and believed residents were beginning to experience more tangible benefits from having a major mining operation in their community.
His comments add to the public discussion surrounding development in Damang since Engineers and Planners, the company led by Ibrahim Mahama, took over operations at Damang Gold Mine in April 2026.
The transition followed a competitive tender after the previous operator’s lease expired. Since then, the new management has faced expectations from residents and community leaders to translate the mine’s economic activity into improvements in infrastructure, employment and local livelihoods.
Road construction has been among the developments highlighted by people in the area. Residents have said improvements to roads have made journeys between Damang and Kumasi easier, while also expressing appreciation for the attention being given to the community.
Yandoh’s remarks reflect his view that the benefits of the mine are becoming more visible to people living in the area. His comments are notable given his background as a former regional communications director for the NPP, although the statement provided does not indicate that he was speaking on behalf of the party.
The developments in Damang have also prompted residents to call for further opportunities, particularly for women and National Service personnel. While some community members have welcomed the road projects and other changes, they have urged the mine’s management and associated contractors to widen access to jobs. <Cite refs={[“turn291777search0”,“turn291777search5”]}/>
The mine’s takeover has brought renewed attention to the relationship between mineral extraction and community development. For residents, the value of the operation is measured not only by gold production but also by whether it creates employment and improves conditions in the communities surrounding the site.
Yandoh’s praise adds to the positive reactions reported from parts of Damang, where residents have acknowledged visible changes since the management transition.
However, the long-term impact will depend on how consistently development projects are delivered and whether local people continue to benefit from employment and infrastructure investment as the mine’s operations progress.
