NPP Walewale condemns remarks against MP, warns aspirants over campaigning
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency has condemned derogatory remarks made about the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, by a party member identified as Hakim, popularly known as Oil.
The remarks were made during an engagement on Mamprugu Online TV, where Hakim reportedly described the MP as a “woman” and claimed he had achieved nothing compared to his predecessor.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 23, 2026, the Walewale Constituency Secretary, Tia Francis, described the comments as unfortunate and inconsistent with responsible political discourse.
The constituency branch acknowledged the importance of constructive criticism and accountability in a democracy but stressed that such engagements must be conducted with decorum and respect.
It added that comparisons between public officeholders should be based on verifiable facts rather than personal attacks.
The statement also reaffirmed the constituency’s commitment to enforcing a directive issued by the NPP General Secretary instructing prospective parliamentary aspirants to suspend their campaigns.
It urged all party members and prospective aspirants to comply fully with the directive, warning that anyone found violating it would face appropriate disciplinary sanctions in accordance with the party’s constitution and regulations.
“No member is above the party’s rules,” the statement emphasised.
The constituency leadership further appealed to members and supporters to maintain discipline, promote unity and avoid personal attacks or actions that could undermine the party’s cohesion.
It said the party’s collective interest and the welfare of the people of Walewale should take precedence over individual disagreements.
