Happening Now: Oburu’s ODM Brigade Lands in Maata Kataboi Ahead of Major Turkana Rally
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has taken its political activities to Turkana County as the party continues its nationwide campaign to honour the late Raila Odinga and strengthen its grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
ODM leaders and supporters have arrived in Maata Kataboi ahead of a scheduled rally on Friday, October 23, 2026. The visit is part of the party’s October programme, dubbed Mwezi wa Baba, which is being held in memory of Raila, who died on October 15, 2025.
However, party leader Oburu Oginga is not expected to attend the Turkana event as he continues recovering at his Nairobi home following his discharge from hospital on October 19.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who serves as one of ODM’s deputy party leaders, confirmed the planned engagement in a message shared alongside a photograph of himself with Oburu. He also conveyed greetings from the party leader to ODM members and supporters ahead of the visit.
The Turkana activities are part of ODM’s efforts to reach more supporters beyond its traditional political strongholds. The party has planned several events across the country during October as it remembers Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s political journey.
According to the announced programme, the party is scheduled to hold morning activities in Kataboi before an afternoon rally in Lodwar. On Saturday, October 24, the programme is expected to continue in Lokichogio and Kakuma.
The activities come as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with parties working to strengthen their structures and expand their reach across different regions.
ODM’s Turkana visit will therefore provide an opportunity for local supporters to interact with party leaders and take part in the planned activities.
The party is expected to conclude its month-long Raila remembrance programme with a major rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on October 31.
Will ODM’s grassroots mobilisation in Turkana help strengthen its support ahead of the 2027 General Election?
