Gachagua Makes Unexpected Move in Migwani as Kalonzo’s Wiper Candidate Seeks Crucial Win

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has deployed senior allies to Migwani Ward to campaign for Wiper Patriotic Front candidate Munyoki Mwangangi ahead of the November 17 by-election.

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and newly elected Ol Kalou MP Sammy Waweru led a delegation of DCP leaders in rallying support for Mwangangi, signalling cooperation between the two opposition-aligned political camps.

The move comes as opposition leaders explore ways to strengthen their relationships and coordinate campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua’s intervention also reflects political reciprocity following Wiper patriotic front leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s involvement in campaigning for a DCP candidate during the Kilifi by-election.

By sending his allies to Migwani, the former Deputy President has returned the gesture, highlighting the potential for cooperation between the two political formations beyond national coalition negotiations.

The support could give Mwangangi additional campaign visibility as he competes for the ward seat, while providing both parties with an opportunity to demonstrate the value of working together in local elections.

Migwani has become an important political battleground as parties seek to establish their grassroots strength ahead of the next general election. However, the outcome will ultimately depend on voters and their assessment of the candidates.

For Kalonzo, the support from Gachagua’s camp represents a gesture of cooperation between their political networks. For Gachagua, backing the Wiper candidate offers an opportunity to reinforce ties with a fellow opposition leader.

The contest will provide a practical test of whether political goodwill between the two camps can translate into coordinated campaigning and voter support.
