“Fuliza Mpya” _ Safaricom Introduces New Fuliza Service for M-Pesa Users, Here’s How to Access It

Small business owners in Kenya have a new option to consider when money runs low in their business accounts, following Safaricom’s introduction of a credit service targeting small traders.

The new product, known as Fuliza Ya Pochi, was launched in Thika on Thursday, October 22, 2026. It targets merchants who use Pochi La Biashara and need extra funds to keep their businesses running.

According to Safaricom, more than one million qualifying merchants can access the facility, which is designed to help businesses handle expenses when incoming payments do not arrive in time.

For instance, a trader who needs to pay a supplier but has insufficient money in their Pochi account may use the facility to complete an eligible transaction.

The service covers several business transactions, including supplier payments, Buy Goods payments, money transfers and bill settlements.

However, traders should remember that Fuliza Ya Pochi is a credit facility, meaning the money borrowed must be repaid.

Not every merchant will qualify for the service immediately. Safaricom requires users to have maintained an active Pochi La Biashara account for at least six months before accessing the facility.

Eligible traders can opt in through the Pochi Mini App on My OneApp or by dialling *334# on their mobile phones.

The company has also outlined how repayment will work. Money received through incoming Pochi transactions will be used to repay the outstanding amount automatically.

This arrangement could help traders settle their loans without making separate repayment transactions. However, automatic deductions may also affect the money available for restocking and meeting other business expenses.

The launch marks another step in Safaricom’s expansion of Fuliza, which initially helped individual M-Pesa users complete transactions despite having insufficient balances.

The new service shifts some attention to small businesses, many of which depend on daily sales to pay suppliers and keep their operations running.

For traders facing temporary cash shortages, the facility could provide an additional option, although understanding the borrowing terms remains important.

Are you a Pochi La Biashara user? Would you consider using Fuliza Ya Pochi to keep your business running when money runs short?
